No, we do not accommodate children under the age of 8. This is due to safety considerations and to ensure an uninterrupted, serene experience for our guests. Unlike dedicated family camps that cater to younger children, Maloba is designed for couples and adult guests seeking an exclusive safari experience.
Does the lodge supply babysitters?
As Maloba is not a child-friendly camp, we do not offer babysitting services. The lodge is designed for a tranquil, adults-focused stay, with no designated play areas or child-specific facilities.
What is the best time of year to visit?
The best time for game viewing is during the dry season (May to September) when wildlife congregates around water sources. The summer months (October to April) offer a lush, green landscape with unique wildlife sightings.
Is tipping expected at the lodge?
Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory. We recommend tipping your ranger and lodge staff at the end of your stay. Guidance on tipping etiquette can be provided upon arrival.

What time do game drives take place?
- Game drives are scheduled during prime wildlife activity hours:
- Morning game drive: Begins around 5:30 am and ends before breakfast
- Evening game drive: Starts around 4:00 pm and concludes after sunset
Can I book a private game drive or tour?
- Yes, we offer personalized, private safari experiences. Please contact the lodge to arrange a tailor-made experience suited to your preferences.
Do I need to be an experienced rider to book the horseback safari?
- Yes, guests must be competent riders to partake in horseback safaris. Please contact the lodge for availability and skill level requirements.
Are game drives conducted in open vehicles?
- Yes, our game drives take place in open 4×4 vehicles, offering unparalleled visibility and an immersive safari experience.
What happens in case of bad weather during a game drive?
- Game drives generally proceed in rainy conditions, as wildlife can be more active. However, should conditions become unsafe, the drive may be rescheduled.
What type of wildlife can I expect to see?
- Maloba Private Game Reserve is home to a lot of wildlife, including cheetahs, rhinos, buffalo, brown spotted hyena and hippo. You can also encounter zebras, giraffes, various antelope species, and an abundance of birdlife. During the night, you might be able to spot some nocturnal animals like the aardvark, porcupine, caracal, spring hare, aardwolf and bat-eared fox.
Can anyone book the Maloba Helicopter safari?
- Guests can book our private chopper for a safari for an additional cost. Contact the lodge to inquire about pricing and availability.
What is the food and dining experience like?
- At Maloba, dining is an immersive experience. Our farm to table concept encourages guests to select fresh produce from our organic gardens for their meals. Enjoy gourmet dining in various settings, including under the African sky or in a private dining area. Special dietary requirements can be accommodated with prior notice.
Is there Wi-Fi and cell phone service at the lodge?
- Yes, Maloba offers excellent Wi-Fi coverage. Cell phone reception varies depending on your location within the reserve.
Is there an on-site spa or wellness center?
- Our Spa site is under construction and will be available in the near future.

Can I buy souvenirs or local crafts at the lodge?
- Yes, our lodge boutique offers Maloba merchandise, and when you book the Diamond Suite, you have the ability to select diamonds for purchase during Diamond Night.
SAFETY AND MEDICAL
Is malaria a concern at the lodge?
- Maloba Private Game Reserve is entirely malaria-free. Guests do not need malaria prophylaxis before visiting
What happens if I fall ill or have an accident?
- Maloba has partnered with ROCKET Emergency Medical Services, South Africa’s leading air rescue provider. With an airbase just outside of Kimberley, emergency assistance can be dispatched within 15 minutes, with a flight time of 12 minutes to the reserve. This ensures guests receive world-class medical care within 30 minutes in case of an emergency.

How far is the lodge from the nearest airport?

Can I fly in directly to the lodge?
- Yes, guests can fly into Kimberley Airport, where a private helicopter charter can be arranged to bring them directly to Maloba. This is a common service provided by luxury reserves to enhance the guest experience. Private fixed-wing charters can also be arranged upon request.
