OUR CONSERVATION STORY

Restoring wilderness at Maloba

A VISION BEYOND LUXURY

Long before fences, agriculture and modern development, the Upper Kalahari existed as a vast, self-sustaining ecosystem. At Maloba Private Game Reserve, our mission is to restore that balance, not by recreating the past, but by rebuilding a resilient wilderness for the future.

Guided by ecological science and our philosophy, “the day before yesterday,” conservation is embedded in every decision we make.

RESTORING THE LAND & WILDLIFE

True conservation begins with the land. Invasive species such as Prickly Pear and Prosopis once disrupted natural vegetation and water systems. Through sustainable removal methods and local employment, Maloba is restoring more than 20,000 hectares, allowing native grasses, shrubs, and wildlife habitats to return.

As the landscape regenerates, biodiversity follows. Maloba is once again becoming a refuge for species that historically roamed this region, including rhino, buffalo, and rare nocturnal wildlife. The planned reintroduction of lions in 2026 represents a significant milestone in our long-term rewilding journey.

Daily wildlife monitoring, essential veterinary care, and close collaboration with our Anti-Poaching Unit ensure that rewilding is matched by effective protection.

SUSTAINABILITY FOR THE LONG TERM

Conservation at Maloba is designed to endure. Solar expansion, regenerative farming, and responsible resource management form the foundation of our sustainability strategy. A fully independent solar system at Umfuni is the next step, reducing reliance on traditional power sources and reinforcing Maloba’s conservation-led identity.
