JULY 2025 AT MALOBA

Maloba Private Game Reserve

JULY 2025 AT MALOBA

July settled in quietly, bringing that familiar dry-season glow across Maloba. The bush has taken on its golden colors now, which means soft yellows and dusty browns as far as you can see. There is a special kind of beauty in this time of year: everything feels calm, clear, and open. The days are warm, but as soon as the sun starts to go down, the cold creeps in, and you can feel the change in the air.

With the chilly nights, the animals seem to adjust their routines a little. As the light begins to fade, the night life seems to start earlier than usual. This month, we were lucky to have some beautiful Aardvark sightings just as the sun was setting, that golden half-light shining on them while they wandered out to feed.

There is something magical about watching an Aardvark in the open like that, moving quietly through the yellow grass and sandy patches, nose to the ground, completely absorbed in its search. Usually, we only see them long after dark, having those moments in the soft evening glow are truly something special.

July is one of the great seasons at Maloba, the landscape may be dry, but it is full of life in its own way. Each day brings a new rhythm, a new sighting of the wild adapting and thriving in the cool, golden light of midwinter.
